Sr. Reliability Engineer

SUMMARY OF POSITION:

 

The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer position is responsible for establishing new and improving existing systems as they relate to Production Maintenance.  The position will help Guerbet continue along the maintenance maturity continuum to achieve excellence as defined by best industry practices.  The position will be responsible for establishing optimum work processes and administrative controls and deploy to the key functions.

The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer will work with the Project Engineers, Process Engineers, Packaging Engineers, Process Mechanics, Facilities Mechanics and other Operations personnel to make sure that all equipment is designed and managed for maximum utility and Total Cost of Ownership.

The Maintenance and Reliability Engineer is a "hands on" role.  This position will support the Production Maintenance function and serves as the key technical resource for the manufacturing operation focusing on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and problem resolution for electronic/mechanical equipment issues.  This position also plays a key role in continuous improvement and performance excellence.  This position will work alongside and support Process Mechanics as needed.

** This position is a hands-on role that requires the vast majority of the time on the production lines with the equipment, operators, and process maintenance. **

ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Analyze current equipment for uptime and efficiency improvements, as well as forecast opportunities/needs for future equipment to maximize production output and profitability in both the short and long term
  2. Identify, create, drive, and manage CAPA’s (and associated change controls) related to equipment improvements in reliability, productivity, and ergonomics
  3. Work with process maintenance to solve day-to-day equipment issues that hinder production, helping to determine root cause and implement solutions
  4. Review equipment mechanical/control system designs and components for improvements and updates
  5. Diagnose and troubleshoot PLC’s, vision systems, motor control systems, and instrumentation
  6. Perform tasks per SOPs and update/create internal procedures as needed
  7. Work with Process and Packaging Engineers to implement standard methods for work instructions, return to service protocols and equipment risk profiles

 

  1. Identify and consult with others, (interdepartmentally, as well as with other departments and external vendors) on solutions to unusual, difficult, or complex tasks
  2. Deliver status updates to management, partners and internal resources
  3. Prioritize and balance competing project demands and conflicting project requirements
  4. Provides leadership to process technicians and operators to maintain a culture of collaboration, continuous improvement, safety, and strives to develop a high-performing maintenance team

 

DEPARTMENT SPECIFIC/NON-ESSENTIAL FUNCTIONS:

 

  1. Work safely in accordance with regulations, standards, and procedures and in a manner that eliminates unreasonable risk to health and the environment.  Notify management of unsafe conditions or practices, unlawful activities and activities which present unreasonable health and/or environmental risk.  Report all safety and/or environmental incidents to management immediately.
  2. Enforce EHS procedures and respond to EHS concerns within his/her area of operational responsibility.  Conduct incident investigations for all incidents that may occur within his/her department.  Follow through on all safety related corrective actions in his/her department.

MINIMUM REQUIREMENTS:

 

Education required/ preferred:

Bachelor’s degree in an Engineering field (preferably Mechanical or Electrical) and/or relative experience.

 

Experience:

5 to 7 years of experience working with electrical, electronic and mechanical maintenance.

Required/Preferred Skills/Qualifications:

Pharmaceutical maintenance/reliability experience in a Manufacturing Plant environment and CMMS (Maximo is strong preferred) experience.

Strong coaching, facilitation, and presentation skills

Proficiency with various Rockwell softwares, such as RS Logix 5000, RS Studio 5000 FactoryTalk Studio SE/ME, etc

Self-starter with the ability to work with minimum supervision

Passion for finding better ways, developing and documenting best practices

Ability to read and understand P&IDs and control schematics

Ability to specify instrumentation and automation components and systems as needed to upgrade current equipment to a higher standard to improve production output and enable new products to be manufactured

Project management, including initiating, leading, or supporting projects as needed

Develop and/or improve current methodologies and work practices as they relate to Preventative and Predictive Maintenance

Expertise in reviewing data and information using basic statistical tools to transition time-based maintenance into reliability centered maintenance

Ability to gown up correctly, access clean areas, and maintain good clean room behavior

 

Skills/Competencies:

Previous experience in a fast paced, high stakes manufacturing environment

Previous experience with cGMP standards and FDA 21CFR

Ability to navigate highly regulated environments and the challenges posed in executing changes in those environments

Ability to work in/with cross-functional teams.

Strong coaching, facilitation, and presentation skills.

Ability to collaborate with other support groups.

Experience in understanding and troubleshooting Distributed Control Systems (Foxboro I/A System preferred), process controls, PLC infrastructure (Allen-Bradley preferred), and calibration systems a plus.

Six Sigma Training is a plus.

Statistical training and demonstrated usage is a plus.

Ability to solve problems via advanced technical knowledge, complex analysis and theory testing.

A record of success in implementing lean manufacturing concepts for continuous improvement.

Strong attention to detail and skillful in handling small parts.

Experience with spending most of the time on the manufacturing floor.  This is not a manage via the office position.

 

 

Other Skills:

Understanding of Standard Operating Procedures, current Good Manufacturing Practices, and regulatory requirements.

 

ORGANIZATIONAL RELATIONSHIPS/SCOPE:

 

  • Reports to Production Maintenance Manager.
  • Interacts with Production, Project Engineering, Facilities Engineering, outside contractors, Quality, Human Resources, and Materials Management departments.
  • Position is responsible for maintaining production processing equipment (formulation through packaging).

 

WORKING CONDITIONS:

 

Work areas consist of a combination of normal office conditions; air conditioned warehouse and production areas, and non-air conditioned utility areas.
