WHAT WE ARE LOOKING FOR

We are looking for an experienced EHS Engineer who will be responsible for developing, implementing, and maintaining the site's Process Safety Management (PSM) programme to ensure safe operation of pharmaceutical API manufacturing processes and compliance with Seveso III, COMAH, ATEX, and corporate process safety requirements.

The role provides expertise in Occupational Health and Safety (OHS) management systems as per ISO 45001 and will also provide support in Environmental Management Systems as per ISO  14001

The successful candidate will work closely with the EHS Manager and the Corporate EHS function. 

 

YOUR ROLE

Process Safety

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve the site's Process Safety Management (PSM) system.
  • Develop and deliver process safety awareness training programme
  • Support compliance with Seveso III Directive, COMAH Regulations, ATEX requirements, and corporate standards.
  • Maintain the site's Major Accident Prevention Policy (MAPP) and Safety Management System (SMS).
  • Monitor legal compliance and establish effective policies and procedures.
  • Support preparation, review and periodic update of the Site Safety Report.
  • Establish and monitor process safety performance indicators (leading and lagging KPIs).
  • Support regulatory inspections, audits, and compliance assessment.
  • Facilitate and lead process hazard assessments including:
    • HAZOP Studies
    • What-If Reviews
    • Process Hazard Analyses (PHA)
    • Layer of Protection Analysis (LOPA)
    • Bowtie Risk Assessments
    • Design and Pre-Start-Up Safety Reviews (PSSR)
    • Human Factors Assessment
  • Identify major accident scenarios and recommend risk reduction measures.
  • Maintain risk registers and ensure timely closure of actions arising from risk assessments.
  • Promote the application of Inherently Safer Design principles.
  • Participate in and approve management of change in continuous improvement in MOC effectiveness. Assess process safety impacts pre and post change with process modifications, equipment changes, new products, automation and control system modifications.
  • Maintain and support safety critical elements programme. Support inspections, testing and maintenance strategies for safety critical systems.
  • Lead and support incident investigations, RCAs and CAPAs.
  • Support development and maintenance of site emergency response plan and training programmes.
  • Develop and conduct process safety audits and inspections.
  • Benchmark site performance against industry best practice.

Environmental Health and Safety

    • Develop, promote and maintain a strong, pro-active health & safety culture on site.
    • Develop, implement and ensure compliance with site EHS management system programs including: contractor control, hazardous work and permit to work Program, chemical safety program, PPE, Electrical safety and Fire safety Programs, etc.
    • Maintain effective training programs and deliver training on EHS matter on site.
    • Assisting in ensuring EHS action tracking and management across all functions of the organisation.
    • Coordinate and lead task, area and equipment related health and safety risk assessments.
    • Support the development and maintenance of a comprehensive EHS management system (according to ISO 45001 and ISO 14001).
    • Ensure EHS incident investigations and corrective actions are tracked to closure.
    • Assist with other EHS related tasks such as updating of documentation in a GMP environment, assist with Regulatory Agency inspections and communications.
    • Ensure that EHS roles and responsibilities are complied with, addressing the requirements of the site’s Health & Safety Management System.
    • Support Security management system.
    • Support and coordinate Environmental reporting as required under Industrial Emissions Licence.
    • Perform other related duties as assigned from time to time based on company needs.

YOUR BACKGROUND

  • Primary Degree in Science or Engineering e.g. Chemical / Mechanical Engineering / Environmental and / or Health and Safety or equivalent
  • Formal qualification in Process Safety and/or
  • 3-5 years’ experience working in a Process Safety role, preferably within a manufacturing environment or 5+ years in an EHS role in a Pharma / Manufacturing Environment
  • Previous experience of a COMAH site, IPPC/IED Licence and GMP Manufacturing is desirable.
  • Highly organised and capable of working on own initiative.
  • Good interpersonal skills with the ability to communicate and interact across all levels within the organisation.
  • Excellent attention to detail.
  • Strong analytical and engineering skills.

  • Excellent report compiling and writing skills.
