Senior Electrical Engineer - New Product Introduction- Based in Cincinnati

General Summary


The NPI Senior Electrical Engineer is responsible for the specification, design and development of electrical circuits and selection of electrical/electronic components for medical devices. The individual will have responsibility for full electrical architecture and design for new products.

Principal Duties and Responsibilities
  1. Design and develop new PCBAs for new medical devices and provide support for existing production released products.
  2. Responsible to ensure that all product development conforms to the requirements of Guerbet Design Control procedures.
  3. Identify and organize the selection of key partners for co-development, prototyping and manage outsourced developments.
  4. Prepare / approve hardware development documentation, including product requirements, design specifications, and verification protocols.
  5. Conduct / supervise verification and validation testing, and document testing results.
  6. Participate in risk management process, including preparation of risk analysis and FMEA.
  7. Provide technical support for product changes and new product manufacturing requirements. Develop and implement project plans from concept through feasibility, development, qualification and launch.
  8. Work with software engineering team to develop PCBA by selecting the appropriate components with regards to embedded software requirements.
  9. Develop test strategies, routine manufacturing tests, specify testers for vendors.
  10. Manage project plans to meet established schedule and cost targets.
  11. Prepare specifications, design drawings layouts and documentation for electrical design changes.
  12. Review and challenge design proposals, and act as principal technical lead for electrical choices.
  13. Develop, review and approve engineering change orders, considering improvements to quality, cost, customer requirements.
  14. Develop, document and lead product and/or process pilot runs and validations related to changes and introduction of new PCBA.
  15. Develop estimates for capital requirements to support products and prepare CER’s as necessary.
Knowledge, Skills and Abilities Required
  1. Knowledge of leading manufacturing processes relevant in the electromedical devices industry with a focus on PCB manufacturing, assembly and cabling.
  2. Experience with outsourced developments and ability to identify and select co-development partners and suppliers that meet business standards.
  3. Understanding of design control processes following ISO13485 or FDA 21 CFR 820 “Design Control Guidance For Medical Device Manufacturers”.
  4. Excellent knowledge of EN60601-1 standard and functional safety requirements.
  5. Ability to identify, analyze and implement improvements independently and to propose changes to existing methods, procedures, processes and/or products.
  6. Use of project management skills throughout the project concept, feasibility, Development, qualification and launch.
  7. Knowledge of EMI and ESD test methods.
  8. Experience with automated testing and knowledge of Design For Testability techniques.
  9. Experience with vendor management; purchasing, RFQs, PCB fabrication/assembly services.
  10. Strong analytical and critical thinking skills and knowledge of problem-solving techniques.
  11. Experience and proficient use with Microsoft Office products Word, Excel, and Power Point.
  12. Strong written and verbal communication skills.
  13. Master’s degree in Electrical Engineering.
  14. Minimum of 8 years demonstrated experience with circuit design for embedded systems; experience with embedded microcontrollers, PLD/FPGA, bus protocols (such as RS232, I2C, CAN, Ethernet), motor drivers, converters and amplifier circuits, filter design, pulse width modulation, transceivers and switching power supplies.
  15. Proficient use with computer aided design software (i.e. Altium)
  16. Working knowledge of design programs AutoCAD and Solidworks a plus.
