Technician (manufacturing)

Job Summary

Working under the direction and general supervision of the supervisor and from wiring diagrams, schematics, and prints.  Sets up and assembles electronics and electrical components and/or final assembly of units.  Trouble shoots undetermined malfunctions, electronic and/or electrical as requested.  Analyzes repairs, rebuilds or modifies both current and obsolete models covered in the above as requested.  This, at times, could require adjustments of mechanical assemblies to assure proper functions of the electrical system.

Work requires broad knowledge of both electrical and electronic technology, the functions, operations and limits of related electronic and/or solid-state components and the procedure for diagnosing, testing assembling, and repairing same.  May perform other duties as assigned by the supervisor, which fall within the skill requirements of the job.

Required Skills

Experience: Minimum of five years of electronic technician in industry with familiarity in Cos/Mos Logic, operational amplifiers, transistors, thyristors, triac, etc. plus 1-2 years in similar type of electronic work.

Materials:  Must know material specification, use, and values of electrical, electronic and/or solid state materials.

Machines and/or Hand Tools: Must be able to use all hand tools related to this type of technology and in addition, must be able to use digital instrumentation and storage oscilloscope and other test equipment used in this type of technology.

Jigs, Dies and Fixtures:  Assembly fixtures, electronic fixtures, electrical running fixtures, etc.

Product, Process and Procedure: Must know procedure for testing, troubleshooting, locating malfunctions in electronic and/or electrical assemblies on both line and unit returned for repair.

Manual Dexterity: Requires a high degree of finger dexterity or sight-hand coordination to work with extremely small parts.

Mental Effort or Demand: Must concentrate mental and visual attention closely, planning and laying out complex work or coordinating a high degree of manual dexterity with close visual attention for sustained periods.

Physical Effort or Demand:  Work requires sustained physical effort to work continually standing with light and average weight materials.


Requires technical knowledge equivalent to an Associate’s Degree in Engineering to understand and perform functions involving complicated engineering problems.
