WHAT WE'RE LOOKING FOR:
The Automation Engineering position provides hands-on, technical support for new and existing automated processes at the Raleigh, NC site. The primary functions of this role include working with and troubleshooting programmable logic controllers (PLC's), vision systems, and other automated control systems, preventive maintenance, new equipment installations, and system integrations. This position is based in a highly technical manufacturing facility and requires strong attention to detail, commitment to quality, a high degree of flexibility, good communication skills, a desire to learn, and the ability to work in a safe manner. The Automation Engineering Technician will work with the Project Engineers, Process Engineers, Process Mechanics, Facilities Mechanics and other Operations personnel to make sure that all equipment is fully functional and maintained for maximum utility. The Automation Engineering Technician is a "hands on" role. This position will work under the supervision of the Engineering Manager, along with the Automation Engineers, applying scientific knowledge, engineering knowledge, mathematics, and ingenuity to complete assignments related to the support of automated systems and equipment in the manufacturing environment and serve as a key technical resource for automated systems focusing on preventative maintenance, troubleshooting and problem resolution for electronic/mechanical equipment issues.
YOUR ROLE:
-Diagnose and troubleshoot PLC, vision systems, and other automated control systems.
-Provides troubleshooting support for automated manufacturing equipment.
-Diagnose and troubleshoot motor/drive controller issues.
-Develop and review electrical and other drawings in support of plant processes.
-Communicate ideas and concerns effectively in working with team members.
-Works with internal customer and implementation resources to meet project requirements.
-Assist Automation Engineers in developing scope of work for Automation/Instrument and Controls system, networks and projects.
-Guide the development of, or reviews of, P&IDs, One Line Diagrams, Schematics and I/O lists. Identify and consult with others on solutions to unusual, difficult, or complex tasks.
-Document control strategies. Review control panel designs.
-Assist Automation Engineers in developing preliminary and final cost estimates.
-Work with internal resources for design preferences, HMI graphics design and standard development.
-Delivers status updates to management, partners and internal resources.
-Prioritize and balance competing project demands and conflicting project requirements.
YOUR BACKGROUND:
-Associates Degree in Electrical Engineering; Mechanical Engineering; or equivalent. 2+ years hands on automation experience.
-Experience in programming, maintaining and troubleshooting PLCs (Allen-Bradley preferred). HMIs (PanelView), variable-speed drives, vision systems, servo-systems, industrial sensors and Relay Ladder Logic.
-Experience completing and documenting preventive and non-routine maintenance.
-Proficiency with Rockwell software, such as RS Logix 5000, RS Studio 5000 FactoryTalk Studio, etc.
-Knowledge/Experience programming and integration of Fanuc robotics.
-Experience working in a pharmaceutical or regulated industrial environment.
-Passion for finding better ways, developing and documenting best practices.
-Ability to read and understand P&IDs and control schematics. Installation and maintenance of industrial communication control networks.
-Communicate clearly and concisely in verbal and written communications.
-Strong background in standard PC applications, Computer validation knowledge.
