  Utilities Maintenance Technician  M/F (27930)



A vacancy now exists for a Utilities Maintenance Technician (O & M).  The primary responsibility of this role will be to support  day to day operations of Utility equipment and the Waste Water Treatment plant.

The successful candidate will be expected to work on days with minimal direct Supervision. They will be  required to acquire a fundamental knowledge of all major equipment items and must develop a functional proficiency in the operation of all Utility equipment and WWT processes.   They will perform  troubleshooting, preventive maintenance and calibration support. There will also be some invasive and intrusive maintenance work and updating of equipment logs using the CMMS system (Maximo).

The primary responsibility is to support  day to day operations of Utility equipment and the Waste Water Treatment plant. The technician will also support connecting and disconnecting of tanker unloading hoses as required by the business.

Principle Accountabiliites

  • Maintain and operate all Utility and Waste Water Treatment  equipment. Understand how the mechanical and electrical portion of the equipment works  and perform non-invasive and intrusive  preventive maintenance as well as calibrations  as required by the schedule.
  • Support daily operations of this equipment as required.
  • This position will involve start-up, normal operation, monitoring and shutdown, and maintenance of DI water generation system , Boilers, Chillers, Chemical dosing systems, Cooling Towers, Air Compressors, PSA Nitrogen , Waste water Treatment  or other mechanical equipment to provide utilities for buildings or industrial processes.
  • Observe and interpret readings on gauges, meters, and charts registering various aspects of utilities operation to ensure that equipment is operating properly.
  • Maintain daily logs of operations, maintenance, and safety activities, including test results, instrument readings, and details of equipment malfunctions and maintenance work.
  • Analyze problems and take appropriate action to ensure continuous and reliable operation of equipment and systems.
  • Clean and lubricate equipment and auxiliary equipment and make minor adjustments as needed, using hand tools.
  • Perform maintenance PM’s and repairs, such as  overhauls, replacement of defective valves, gaskets, or bearings.
  • Operate or tend facilities equipment and auxiliary equipment such as pumps, compressors, and air-conditioning equipment, to supply and maintain steam or heat for buildings or to meet industrial processes.
  • Test boiler water quality or arrange for testing and take necessary corrective action, such as adding chemicals to prevent corrosion and harmful deposits.
  • Adjust controls and/or valves on equipment to provide power, and to regulate and set operations of system or industrial processes.
  • Monitor boiler water, chemical, and fuel levels, and make adjustments to maintain required levels.
  • Contact equipment manufacturers or appropriate specialists when necessary to resolve equipment problems.
  • Follow current good manufacturing practices (cGMPs) and good business practices.
  • Support the weekly fire testing programme in conjunction with the plant ERT team and Utilities Supervisor as requested
  • Support any projects  in the Utilities /WWT area.
  • Day to Day Operations of WWTP to meet IPPC/IED licensing limits and obligations
  • Work to implement improvement initiatives /projects in the Utilities /WWTP areas.
  • General Utilities tasks as requested.
  • Ensure that EHS roles and responsibilities are complied with as per the requirements of the site Safety Statement
  • Support work load in the various areas across the Utilities/Facilities/tanker unloading  area  by covering sickness and emergency issues as requested

Required Skills & Background

  • Minimum of 3+ years of experience in operations and maintenance of steam pressure systems and other utilities equipment is desirable, i.e. DI water generation system , Boilers, Chillers, Chemical dosing systems, Cooling Towers, Air Compressors, PSA Nitrogen, Waste Water Treatment plant operation, mechanical support of utilities for buildings and industrial processes
  • Strong problem solving and fault finding skills.


  • Qualification to National Craft Standard - may substitute additional relevant experience for educational requirement.
